Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a trial run and why is it necessary for me?

A trial run is a rehearsal of one or more styles that might suit you, your dress, any hairpieces or decorations as well as the overall look and feel of your event.  Trial runs are helpful because they address issues such as; hair style options, event circumstances (outdoor vs. indoor for example), alopecia, extensions and the overall look you would like your wedding/event to have.  Spending time together with personal communication allows for full understanding of your event and your natural beauty.  In the interest of my personal dedication to satisfaction, I do recommend a trial.

How much preparation time should I allow for?

The average time for a fancy up-do is 30-45 minutes per person and 15-20 minutes per person for make-up.  Pictures are a helpful visual reference; I provide photos on my website as well as my personal opinion and encourage additional photos.  Leeway time should also be allowed for stubbed toes, broken nails, lost contacts, forgotten dresses, and the one or two bridesmaids that stayed out a little too late with the cute groomsmen from Montana. =)

When should I wash my hair?

Like any hairdresser will say, “a head of dirty hair is the best”, I am no exception.  Not to say your hair should be slowly gaining its own consciousness, but it’s best if your hair be washed about 24 hours before.  Letting your base settle provides a natural shine and allows your cuticles to close.  If you prefer to wash your hair the morning of the event, I can match the effect with products but it does lack the longevity that your hairs natural oils provide.

Do you require a deposit or use a contract?

I do have a detailed contract that protects us both, and yes I require a deposit of 50% of all scheduled services.  Once we come to an agreement on scheduled services I will provide you with your special contract.  I am flexible with adding services the day of, if my schedule permits.

 When is the balance due?

Upon arrival at your event, unless you have a friend who is willing to do my laundry for the duration of your honeymoon.

What types of payment do you accept?

Cash, check  (only for deposit, not accepted the day of special event) , credit cards (4% fee applies on all credit transactions) and solid gold bricks.
$45 bounced check fee.
No Money Orders (no exceptions).

Do you have any hidden fees?

I guarantee that the price I quote you is the same as the bill I hand you (unless add-on's are made).

What products and tools do you use?

I use a variety of products including Sexy Hair, Jose Eber, MAC, Lancome, Este Lauder, AVON and many more.  All products range from hairspray, serums, volumizers, shine enhancers, etc…  I try to stay away from harsh, cement or plastic-like products.  All of my make up utencils are 100% disposable.  In my experience, I’ve learned that nothing looks natural unless you work with the natural state of your hair.  The tools are combs and irons, not magical wands (although many clients have sworn it was magic).  I am more than willing to discuss any and every option with each individual.

Do you offer a payment plan for large purchases?

Yes.  Payment arrangements are only allowed to be made on services totaling $600.00 and above.  In the event a payment arrangement is needed all discounts are forfeited, 50% of the entire bill must be paid in order to book the appointment.  The remaining balance will be divided into 2 equal payments and a $25.00 fee (as a finance charge) is added to each payment.  Upon the day of appointment the first payment (of the 2 equal payments) is to be paid.  Then with in 30 days of the date of service, the final payment must be made.

Is a tip included in your quote?

I do not include gratuity in my pricing.  I truly believe any bonus is reflective of your satisfaction and budget.  Always appreciated

Will my hair last all day and night?

Yes.  If you decide to wear your hair all up, each section of your hair will be secured in place with pins and products.  If you choose to leave some or all of your hair down, the determined style will be designed to last through many hours.  I am proud to say my main curling tool is made my Jose Eber, his products are fabulous.  They use reverse ionic technology and actually heat the hair from the inside out creating a more lustrious shine and holding your curls until you hit the shower the morning after! (not kidding =))

How do you work with hair decoration such as veils,

headpieces, flowers, jewels, etc…?

All hair decorations accompany your individual style at no extra charge, you provide them of course.  While no one denies the elegance of the tri-veil (blusher, finger-tip and cathedral), it is increasingly common for brides to choose adornments such as; flowers, pearls, jewels, ribbons, sparkles, bunny ears and raccoon hats.  Ok, I have never done the raccoon hat, but I do feel that any additional ornamentation that is distinctive to you creates a personal bridal style.  I recommend that you bring with you to your trial run a fake replica of your hair decor so we don't chance a curling iron burn or make-up stain from those tears when you see yourself in ultimate glamour.  You can pick up a fake on at your local craft store....

I have very short hair and I’m having trouble finding a

suitable style.  I’ve thought about extensions.

It has always been hard to find visual references for a shorter haircut.  Comfort is key to looking stunning for each photograph taken (being the center of attention, this is very important).  In this situation I absolutely recommend a trial as your options might be wider than you realize.  Although there are not many publicized photos of shorter wedding styles, they are common and can be absolutely gorgeous.  The consultation not only informs you of your many options, but explores each.  As far as extensions; I have worked with both temporary and longer term.  I do find freshly  braided pieces to be damaging to your natural hair and do not recommend them.  However, my recommendation is securely pinning an added hair weft in for one to two days.  This provides an elongated and full effect without future damage.  I personally offer you Fusion/Bonded Extensions that are of the highest quality out there, 100% Human hair by Remy.  When extensions are properly done, with all the pins and tracks neatly hidden, the style will look very natural and beautiful.

I am hosting an outdoor ceremony and/or reception.

What concerns should I be aware of regarding the

weather?

Living in Colorado we all know that the weather is unpredictable.  Generally, a more secure style will photograph better in extremely hot, moderately windy or rainy conditions as well as endure greeting lines, reception and dinner.

How do I match my hairstyle to the style of my dress and

wedding?

This is another reason to book a trial.  Different dress cuts and make-up styles work better with different hairstyles.  For example: edgy hair and darker make-up is not a match for a classic dress.  Allowing the time to discuss your event in the big picture provides a completed and well suited look.  In lieu of this, at the trial please wear clothing or cuts similar to your wedding gown.

What is a Glossing Treatment?

A Glossing treatment is a special glaze (offered at My Traveling Stylist, exclusively) that is placed on your hair for 30-45 minutes.  This special glaze lasts for up to 30 days and gives your hair an amazing shine.  Its the closest you will ever come to looking like a Pantene Pro-V model!  I do this for all of my brides so on your wedding day your hair is at the peak of its ability to look fabulous.

What is your travel fee?

A travel fee is only assessed if your location is over 25 miles round trip.  Should your location be father than 25 miles round trip you will be assessed a .68 cent per mile fee (including the first 25 miles).  If your are having a special event, such as a wedding which is over 50 miles round trip the travel fee is .75 per mile, this amount does include the charges for stay in a hotel.  You will only be billed for the mileage, not additional fees for my stay.
